La Isla proudly sponsors...
What is the talent you are being sponsored for?
The Olympic sport of Three Day Eventing. It is the ultimate horse sport. It combines dressage, cross country, and show jumping.
How long have you been doing it for? How did you get started?
I have loved horses since before I can remember. I begged my parents to let me take riding lessons when I was 4. They made me wait till I was five and it was all over after that. I’ve been riding competitively for over 16 years.
I have spent most of my life juggling riding competitively and going to school. I graduated from James Madison University in 2010 with a BBA. I invented a veterinary product for horses, called Rebound Hoof Pack that relieves sore hooves. My family helps me with the business so I can spend my days being a professional rider. I have competed successfully at the Olympic level, and aspire to one day represent the US!
Cross country is such a rush! You get to gallop flat out over tables, ditches, banks and water jumps for almost ten minutes. What makes it more amazing is to compete with a horse you have a relationship with. When you cross the finish line you feel such a bond, like “yea, we just beat that course!”
When I am not Riding…
I’m on my laptop working on Rebound. I still am in charge of the marketing aspect, and the website. I don’t have a lot of free time, but when I do I love spending time with my friends and family!
What are three things you like about La Isla?
Their bathing suits and T-shirts are both beautiful and original. You can tell it’s not about just making a profit. La Isla gives back to the world in so many ways. They also help clothe people in need. My favorite thing is that they employ head of household women to do the embroidering. I wish more companies would follow in La Isla’s footsteps!
What is the last thing you read and why?
That Winning Feeling! By Jane Savoie. It is a book about mastering your nerves and controlling the mental aspect of competing. I’m competitive, so naturally I get anxious to do well. Making sure I focus on what I need to do, and not just about winning or loosing is huge!
Is there anything you would like the world to know about you?
The best is yet to come. I have a young upcoming horse that I’m really excited about, but it takes years to train a horse to the top level. I also realize being a professional athlete is a pretty selfish occupation. I look forward to having the time to give back and teach other people!
What are the three most important things to you in your life?
My family, my happiness, and always living by the golden rule!
Name three people you admire the most and why?
Karen O’Connor – Has been a force in Olympic level Eventing since before I was born. She has also been my trainer for the past 7 years. I have learned so much from her! Mary King – She was first and second at last year’s Rolex three day event. She bred the winning horse herself and trained it all the way to the very top level. Hilary Clinton – She is one classy, hard working lady!
