La Isla proudly sponsors...
Mammoth Lakes, Ca
What is the talent you are being sponsored for?
How long have you being doing it for? How did you get started?
My mom bought me a snowboard for Christmas in 1993. I was 9 years old. I had a supportive group of guy friends in Tahoe that I would ride with and they convinced me to start competing when I was 15 years old.
Kimmy learned to love the snow early – skiing at age 2 and snowboarding by age 9. She quickly found that her fearless approach to life fit perfectly with her passion for snowboarding. Along with snowboarding, Kimmy earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Her contagious smile and motivated and hard working attitude sets her apart from others. In 2011, Kimmy was the first female snowboarder to land a double backflip in both backcountry and park. During the off season, she spends as much time as she can outdoors, staying in shape by hiking, biking, swimming, rock climbing, and practicing yoga. Her and her husband are also Co-Owners of Mimi’s Cookie Bar, an eco friendly, organic/all natural bakery in Mammoth Lakes, Ca.
Why snowboarding, etc?
Snowboarding is my passion and it makes me so happy to spend so much time outdoors in the mountains.
When I am not Snowboarding I am…
hiking, biking, doing yoga, or laying on a beach.
What are three things you like about La Isla?
I love the suits and the fact that they are hand made. I love that La Isla is so focused on giving back to others through their new La Isla 360 program, and Surfrider Foundation, Children of the Americas, and Jean-Michel Consteau’s Ocean Futures Society. Lastly, I am so grateful to have a good reason to get into a cute suit after a long winter.
What is the last thing (book, article, publication) you read and why?
I listen to a lot of books in the car since I drive so much during the winter. The last book I listed to was Anti Cancer: A New Way of Life by: David Servan-Schreiber
Is there anything you would like the world to know about you?
I love life and try to live everyday to the fullest.
What are the three most important things to you in your life?
My husband, my family, and my health.
Name three people you admire the most and why?
I admire my mother because she has always shown me unconditional love and support. I admire my husband Chris Benchetler for believing in me when no one else does. He is my rock! I admire all the athletes in the world for taking care of their bodies and for chasing their dreams.
